Kerouac’s Penultimate Dream- Northampton Mass- Midnight

Eisenhower Highway # (1

Eisenhower Highway # (1

Well friends – what a day-
God Bless Customs and Immigration (USA)
for letting one of us in sans passport
which somehow got lost twixt duty free and Frontier
As M said (Who lost passport)
How come these things only happen to you Campbell ?
Well, I was born on Friday the 13th-
We made it to Northampton
3 Whiskeys and a good meal later
Anna and I rambled town
in search of cream
for her coffee
In containers less than 100 gallon
We Bought a litre
But here we are Massachussetts
Birthplace of this wondrous querrulous country
I always feel at home in Mass.
Well It’s shower and bed for this old
Lopsided optimist
More, as she said,later.
Yr old pal
Campbell
I don’t normally do this,
but Kate
naan feels you too
it’s like you never left
But you did
We soldier on
To New London and Montauk
Although I like Northampton just fine
Come to Mass.
It’s a Coomonwealth ,not a state.
Kinda Like Québec.
