It’s late – I’m old – Well quite the show tonight
Just a word of thanks to the gang as per and a special Hello to Krystle, Andy, & Sharif
From Luminato to Laminates-
THE NEXT MORNING!!!
We are safely informed that the post show thingy went late late late- Balconville Toronto redux.
The Montreal Gazette gives a glowing review That contains one small error. Loudon didn’t participate, the paterfamilias Dane Lanken sang. La Presse Review hereSo many nice people and what a band!! Led by Brad Albetta they slew. If , perchance this tour makes it any where near you, DROP ALL AND GO.
Nice seeing Ariel, Genevive, Jordan, Carol, Chaim, Susannah , Moses, Emilie, Vinnie Kathleen Nessie and so many others we haven’t seen since the Bacchanal here last December. The Sala Rossa was a nice place to swill wine and gnosh. I had a great time as my head this morning will attest- Yikes ! If you hit the hotlink you’ll see the review which I believe contains video, a medium that, unlike still photography Ol Campbell has not yet mastered. Our Cab driver wouldn’t believe Sharif wasn’t Ziggy Marley- Oh Well. It was a gas to see Alaistair who we hadn’t seen since his frockcoat evening at The Albert Hall nigh on 3 years ago. We also had great chat with Bill Frissell who by happensatnce or grand design plays on the Hunter Thompson project that Hal Willner gave us in Toronto. Hearing 100,000 people singing Complainte was heart warming. anna on squeeze box and Joel on that new fiddle was icing on cake. I’m sure there are typos here but it’s sincere. Extra Thanks to Cleo and Rygel Zifkin for taking care of arc and using the iPhone I was hapless at respectively. Let’s do it again
as ever

The bifurcation of show and balcony at hotel. Toronto no longer resembles Tirana Albania. The show was great in spite of my misgivings. For ‘ol me the highlights were anna doing Jaques and Gilles from the newly reissued Matapedia It may not be Kate’s greatest song but it’s her most important in that she takes Franco American Migration and distills Parkman et alia in 3 verses. Buy This disc Stat.
Krystle Warren & Teddy Thompson tore the house down with Go leave. The 4 members of what was Broken Social Scene amazed by doing amazing interpreations of Mother Mother & Come Back Baby. Nice to see the pantheon is not cast in wax or stone. Emmy Harris was the dear sweet woman she always is and it was great to see Maple Byrne. He hipped me to the Bear Family Bristol Sessions in NYC last year. I gave him my copy of Big Bang of Country music. Tit for tat. Also nice to see and hear a B3 with Leslies. CBC sent someone to host who, in true CBC fashion, called the sisters Half Scottish and Half French Canadian. Mixing Hibernia and Caledonia is a big ixnay in my book. We ran into Warren Clements of The Globe and caught up after too many years. We had a few words with A. Clarkson. She’s no longer on take 30 but apparently was GG for a while. Good for her. So modest Ms. C. Crikey I can’t encapsulate a week in this blog and most of wehat went on on the balcony is either libellous or lost in a fog of smoke and wine. We’d love to hear of any video of the show. Oh yes and it was heartening to see Hal Wilner. A mensch, if that’s really a word he is one. Meeting M. Charlebois made my week. It was after seeing him open for Steppenwolf on June 23rd 1969 at the old Montréal Forum that caused me to learn French. No Gars ben Ordinaire him. Buy his records and you’ll see.

Garden Court™ is heading to Toronto. We understand it’s a “World Class City”. The first of our gang are in transit as I type. The Celtic ? Scandy Dancers with used knees head off Monday. Watch this space for random updates. We understand that we have rooms with balconies which means -“smoke ’em if you got ’em”
We Wish Naan Good Luck Tomorrow on her talk with Michael Ondaatje and the Exquis Tom Mennier. This is all part of the Luminato Festival- In no particular order we shall comprise-
Dane, Anna, Lily, Sylvan, Chaim, Martha, Brad, Arc, Rufus, Janie, Joel,Campbell/Campbie™, and so many others. The whole thing curated by Joe Boyd and Luminato is overseen by Dear Jorn Weisbrodt
What Hijinks and hilarity shall ensue is anyone’s guess. If this “anyone ” knows, please let me know.

We Read in an old poem that-
Toronto has no social classes-
Only the Masseys and the Masses.
